Bal Yoga Mitra Mandal

Bal Yoga Mitra Mandal, BYMM, (Children’s Yoga Fellowship) aims to spread the message of yoga to children through children. Dedicated to developing the total personality of children between the ages of 7 and 14, the trademark of BYMM is yoga education for children by children.

BYMM was founded in Munger in 1995 by Swami Niranjanananda with an original membership of seven children. Established to bring yoga to children without the influence of adults and professional teachers, BYMM has emerged as a unique movement, demonstrating the remarkable benefits of yogic education. Today BYMM has a membership of 30,000 children in Munger and 121,000 children throughout India, all of whom are involved in learning and teaching yoga.

BYMM began teaching yoga in local schools in 1995. The first children’s yoga teaching course was held at Ganga Darshan in 1996. In 1997 the children began teaching yoga in Bihar. Currently BYMM has a core group of 6,500 teachers, and over 3,000 children are being trained as yoga teachers, instructors and demonstrators.

BYMM is divided into four groups: teaching yoga, learning yoga, personality development and research. BYMM is also involved in the organization of special events at Ganga Darshan and in Munger.

Other organizations are Bal Yoga Yuva Mitra Mandal (Children’s Youth Yoga Fellowship), which caters for 14 to 18 year olds, and Yuva Yoga Mitra Mandal (Youth Yoga Fellowship) for those over 18 years.
