During his parivrajaka years, Sri Swami Satyananda planted the seed for the magazines YOGA (English) and YOGAVIDYA (Hindi) in Rajnandgaon, in the home of Swamis Satyabrat and Dharmashakti. He said that through the means of the magazine he would teach yoga vidya, the knowledge of yoga.
The press was inaugurated on 1st January 1963, and the same month saw the first issues of YOGA and YOGAVIDYA which were sent free of cost to all devotees and disciples.
In 1977, the press moved from Rajnandgaon to Munger and the magazines have been published since from Sivananda Ashram, Munger, and then from Ganga Darshan Vishwa Yogapeeth.
The 21st century introduced a coloured cover and coloured pictures within the magazines.
Sixty years after the first printed issue, YOGA magazine went online in January 2013, the year of the World Yoga Convention. It met with great interest and became a source of inspiration in the digital world.
